"It is the duty of every cultured man or woman to read sympathetically the scriptures of the world. If we are to respect others' religions as we would have them respect our own, a friendly study of the world's religions is a sacred duty."
I believe this quote to be true. There are so many religions in this world, who am I to say that the one that I believe in was the right one. How can you make an educated decision on what you want to believe without knowing what other religions are out there? I was raised Christian. I believed that if you did not ask Jesus Christ into your heart that you would not go to Heaven. Can you imagine being a child and having friends who believed in a different religion, how scary that was. I thought my friends were going to hell. I would stay up nights worrying that the world was coming to an end and my family and I would go to Heaven and some of my friends would go to hell. What a horrible thought! As I got older I was able to better understand my religion but it was not enough. I wanted to know what other people thought so I took a class on World Religion. I learned so much from that one class! And it was just a high level overview of the world's most popular religions. I still have my beliefs and they won't change but by taking that class I am more tolerant and understanding of other people's beliefs. I would recommend you all to do the same.
